Mr.Kaneland: the show smoother than grease lightning

Ten teens “dance” it out for the Mr.Kaneland crown on Friday, February 26.

“Mr. Kaneland is more than just entertainment for the community. It helps raise money for the ‘Kaneland Cares’ foundation. All the money raised will go to a family in need in the community,” student council advisor, Lori Grant said.

The fundraiser started eight years ago as an effort to raise money for breast cancer research. Since then, Mr. Kaneland has raised over $25,000. This year, the boys managed to sell over 500 tickets to the “Grease” themed production, making it a sold out show.

Seniors Lexi Elias, Anthony Romano and Jonathan Turyna were the masters of ceremony. They each asked the candidates silly, yet hard hitting questions such as “Who is your favorite Disney Princess and why?” and “What is your best pick up line?”

After the candidates performed their group dance, each boy strut down the auditorium stage showcasing their casual wear outfits. Following the casual wear portion of the night was the individual talent section of the night. Among them were dances, a comedy show and even eating a bowl of cereal.

Once all of the candidates were done performing their talents, they came together for another group dance and then got auctioned off to audience members.

As the night came to an end, junior, Patrick Murphy came in third, senior, Tanner Van Horn came in second and senior John Lim was crowned Mr. Kaneland. The fundraiser raised nearly $6,000.
