How to refurbish jeans for the summer

During the summer no one want to wear jeans, their just too hot to wear and you can’t tan your legs while walking around outside. Plus no one wants to go and buy new shorts that are so expensive.

An easy but cheap way to get ready for summer is to refurbish your old jeans. It takes just a pair of scissors and some creativity to make bleach tie dye shorts.

To make these shorts the supplies needed to make them are:

  • Pair of jeans

  • Bleach

  • Old toothbrush

  • Sponge

  • Bucket/ Bowl

  • Spray bottle

  • Scissors

  • Washing machine/ Dryer

Creating the shorts

To start off you pair of jeans make sure they are clean and recently washed. Try on the  jeans and find the spot wanted to cut into shorts.

Mark on the jeans a the desired spot short lengths. Mark the jeans with a safety pin or chalk, or anything that will not leave a permanent mark on the jeans.

The jeans will eventually fray and the short will become shorter over time. If you do not want the jeans to be too short from fraying cut and inch or and inch and a half below desired length.

Take them off and lay them on a flat surface.Take and ruler and align it with the marks made for cut off point. Mark along the line and cut them across on a slight angle to create a more flattering look.

Try the short on to make sure they are the correct length and look right. Change anything else to them if needed and leave either a fringe at the end or hem the ends off.

Dyeing the shorts

To bleach tie dye shorts start off by creating the bleach and water. In a bowl mix together 2 cups bleach and 2 cups water.

Dampen the area on the shorts where bleach will be going. This makes it easier for the bleach to soak into the material. If you do not want the bleach to drip through to the other side place newspaper in-between the pants before putting the bleach onto the shorts.

Place the shorts into a bucket or a bowl to catch the drip off from the shorts. To create a splatter look with the bleach mixture take a toothbrush wet it with the mixture and run your thumb along the toothbrush to splatter it over the shorts.

Then find an empty spray bottle and dump the mixture into there. Spray directly on the areas wanted for the shorts. Also try a sponge to create big splots on the shorts.

Once the design is done on the shorts within five minutes of application rinse the bleach off in a small bucket of cold water.

Ring out the excess water and bleach and throw them into the washer. If anything else is in the washer with the shorts make sure they can be bleached, also make sure the shorts are on the bottom the the washer before adding anything else to the washer.

After they are washed and dried you have your very own customized jean shorts. It’s time to get ready for the summer.
