Teresa Witt was welcomed onto the District 302 school board on Oct. 12, after long-time board member Bob Meyers resigned.
Ten applicants went through a long selection process which included four hours of interviewing all the applicants and reviewing resumes and written statements. The board selected Witt, and she will fill the remainder of Meyers term until the April 5 election.
The board needed someone to step in the position mid-term with experience, Board President Cheryl Krauspe said.
“I think she can step into the position and work with us as a team,” Krauspe said.
Witt, who has children in the district, has worked with all levels of Kaneland schools over the past eight years. She was a PTO secretary for the elementary schools and then at the middle and high school levels.
“I believe education is very important and is the foundation to build the future,” Witt said.
Since 2004, she has served on the financial advisory committee, and she was the communications director during the referendum.
“She adds a strong base of experience to the board,” Superintendent Dr. Jeff Schuler said.
