“Hello, can I take your order?”

Sugar Grove residents may soon be asked this question by employees of a McDonald’s that could be built in the area at the corner of Park Ave. and Rt. 47 in Sugar Grove.

Richard Young, Sugar Grove’s Community Development Director, said that the planned location is basically in front of the Jewel-Osco on Rt. 47.  McDonald’s has filed some building plans, including computer renderings, with the village. The company plans open the 39,000 sq. ft. McDonald’s this spring, if the plan goes through. The new restaurant will look like some of the more modern McDonald’s that have been recently constructed, with a pale brick exterior and a more rectangular shape.

“The village had asked McDonald’s about outdoor seating,” Young said.

Young said the community reaction to the  restaurant, which would be the town’s first-ever with a drive-thru, has been good.

“It’s not a done deal yet. The response we’ve had from the public has been very positive,” Young said.

Several Kaneland students said they were glad Sugar Grove would finally have another restaurant choice.

“I think it’d be a good idea because there’s nowhere else to eat in Sugar Grove,” freshman Meredith McCaffrey said.

Fellow freshman Reid Peters said he’s happy because it means not traveling as far for McDonald’s. Although Sugar Grove already has three pizza places and a Subway, having a McDonald’s could attract more businesses to the town, Young said.

“Because McDonald’s is such a well-known national brand, [commercial businesses] will look to see if they can have an expansion of their franchise here, in Sugar Grove,” Young said.
