How do you improve on a season where you finish tied for second in the state? That’s a question the boys’ track team is trying to answer in practices, where determination and the desire to succeed shows on the boys’ faces.
“We are going to do what we always do and outwork the other schools,” senior runner Curtis Secrest said.
Over the offseason, the Knights are holding workouts to try and improve their season from last year. Runners are doing interval workouts, timed runs, and quick and explosive core sessions, Secrest said.
“Our team goal is placing at state again,” junior runner Andrew Essex said. “We have some huge shoes to fill, and everything starts at off-season workouts.”
For a team that should have a lot of quality runners and should have a lot of potential, the Knights need to keep their goals set high and step by step try to accomplish every single goal they possibly can. ”
This team has a lot of good players to watch out for,” junior Miroljub Marin said. “To begin with, Trevor Holm has helped our 4×800 team tie the school record at state last year. He is a great athlete and has a lot of heart. I respect him and his work ethic. Some other runners to watch out for are juniors Clayton Brundige and Andrew Essex.”
For a team that is trying to follow up a season that doesn’t come around too often, the team is optimistic about trying to match last season or even better, come in first place.
“We still have a lot of room for improvement. We can improve by working hard and learn from what the seniors did last year,” Essex said. “We have a lot of people returning, and we’re eager to go to work.”
