The top five things students should not post on Facebook, according to Kaneland faculty and students:
1. Alcohol consumption or illegal activity in photos
“Students shouldn’t post inappropriate photos because it can prevent them from getting a job or accepted into a school, it could get them fired, it could get them suspended from sports if they’re an athlete, and it could get them in legal trouble potentially.” -Business teacher Andrew Igras
“You can get a bad reputation, and jobs and colleges could deny you.” -Senior Zachary Douglas
2. Vulgarity in posts and blogs
“Using vulgar words may offend some people and, since you never know who may be looking at your wall, why take the chance?” -CTE teacher Tom Hanlon
“That’s cyberbullying, and colleges can see that. Whatever you post on the internet stays there forever.” -Junior Connor Williams
3. Inappropriate profile pictures
“Inappropriate profile pictures make you look bad. They’re out there for the world to see, and you don’t want to make a bad impression.” -Spanish teacher Michelle Jurcenko
“People you know will judge you, and it would give you a bad reputation. Colleges could see that in a negative way.” -Freshman Tori Guyton
4. Negative comments about colleges
“Colleges can see any of that kind of stuff, and admission officers have become really good detectives. You wouldn’t want to post anything like that that they could see.” -Spanish teacher Michelle Jurcenko
“Colleges can see that you’re posting bad things and that could negatively affect you.” -Freshman Julia Lennon
5. “R”-rated videos or links
“People will be quick to judge you and base who you are off of what they see, and colleges don’t want to see any of that on your profile.” -Junior Austen Davis
