“42” is a home run

42+is+a+home+run+

BY MURPHY GARCIA, Editor

The new movie “42”  has the potential to be a classic. It is a true story that brings back memories of the very first professional African-American Major League Baseball player (MLB). Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) showed that he could overcome the discrimination, racism and individualism that were a part of his everyday life. Growing up without a dad made him that much stronger. Throughout the film, Robinson struggles with anger, but he learns to hold it back, in order to make money for his family.

After making it through the first year of playing for the Montreal Royals of the (league), Robinson was offered a higher paying job of playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers of the MLB. This was a major deal (with money) because he had a wife and baby on board.

Robinson had an especially rough past with some players from the Dodgers teammates, it was a new beginning for Robinson. Some teammates were quitting the team, so he had to train for a position of first base, one he had never played.

This movie teaches an important part of teamwork equality. Each person is different but they are needed to make a united team.  “42” is an inspirational story that anyone can enjoy.
