The “Dog Whisperer’s” Cesar Millan returns to television with a new show
By Courtney Diddell, Editor
Every year, millions of dogs are found abandoned or abused on the streets. Common excuses are that they misbehave and don’t get along with the other animals or even members of the family. These behaviors cause owners to leave them instead of provide for them.
Cesar Millan, known for his skills to rehabilitate dogs, is putting a dent in the desertion of these misbehaved dogs by teaching them to get along with their owners and behave.
Moving from the “Dog Whisperer” host and dog handler, Millan carries his techniques of taming and teaching dogs to his new show, Leader of the Pack.
National Geographic Wild said Millan’s goal is to raise awareness of the state a lot of abandoned dogs are currently in and to find them a family he believes will take good care of them. He intends on saving the life of many wayward canines.
Taking place in various places on the globe, Millan’s new series shows him hunting out families for abandoned or abused dogs that are usually overlooked. The dogs are prevented from being adopted in any other homes due to their aggression or shyness.
In each episode three families are tested on their dog handling capabilities in a time span of only two days, where they all compete for one dog. While detecting the flaws of the competing families, Millan finds the perfect family to pair each of his abandoned dogs with.
Aside from coaching these families, Millan also works with the dogs on isolating their behavioral issues and bad habits, as well as giving them confidence to walk into the open arms of their “pack leader.”
According to Fox News Latino, since Millan’s suicide attempt in May 2010, after his wife divorced him and his favorite dog died, he refuses anti-depressants, stating that he can find happiness through his pack dog wisdom, which brings him to his new show.
Leader of the Pack is a heartwarming show that not only brings mixtures of pity and joy, but also teaches ways to control and tame dogs. It’s not about the characteristics of the dog, it’s about the owner.
Found on Nat Geo Wild, the show airs new episodes on Saturday evenings at 9 p.m.
