The cheap and trendy way for prom

By: Nina Burns, Editor

Girls:

This year there are no limitations to dresses. When last year ball gowns took over the dance, new styles were being created. With so many styles, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Getting an ideal dress style before shopping will make the search process much more enjoyable. Strapless and halter tops aren’t the only type of dresses this season. Many prom dresses have short or long sleeves. Sleeves can be made out of sheer lace or a simple material, and flatter almost everyone. Sleeves can be used in any style, including mermaid. A modern style found most commonly in wedding dresses, mermaid dresses have a fitted top and thigh area, but become full around the knees. This styled dress is the best of both worlds with its tight fit but still giving a ball gown feel. Though ball gowns come in different colors and fabrics, they all have the same basic design. A ball gown has a tight fitted top starting from the bust, following through the lower torso. Ball gowns have a full voluminous bottom usually consisting of different layers. Like a ball gown, an A-line dress has a full bottom half.  An A-line cut is the most forgiving style of prom dresses with its flowy fabric starting right below the bust. Its top, still giving a fitted feel, allows almost anyone to pull of an a-line and still look beautiful. When constantly moving and dancing, being weighed down by a full dress isn’t ideal. A fitted prom dress provides an elegant romantic feel and is anything but casual. Fitted dresses come in many styles and could include a slit, lace, or sequins. Going into the dress shopping process may seem like a burden, but knowing all the options and an ideal style will make it easier. Don’t give up on a dress hunt, the perfect dress is waiting to be found.

Guys:

When shopping for a tux, tuxedos may start to blend together. A traditional look consists of a black tux, white shirt, and black bow tie. Tuxedos can range from black to completely white, and even varieties of color. When branching away from the traditional black, matching the vest color to a dates dress is great color combination and an easy way to avoid the two outfits clashing. When deciding between a tie and a bow tie, one must decide what look they’re going for. For a traditional look, a black bow tie is a must. For a sleek modern tuxedo, a regular or thin black tie will add a final touch to any tux. Keeping a tuxedo simple is an easy way to look elegant without spending hours shopping.
