The Grammys & Oscars show some class

BY LEXI ROACH, Executive

On February 10th, the 55th annual Grammy Music Awards took place in the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.

The broadcaster of CBS who was filming the Grammys declared new rules for the first time in history: no provocative outfits or excessive nudity, or said artist would be fined. This rule was implemented and followed, and CBS reporters stated that outfits at the Grammy this year were classy and elegant, not costumes.

The Grammys featured award Best of Album of the Year was won by Mumford & Sons for their album Babel. Best New Artist of the Year went to Fun, Best Pop Solo Performance went to Adele for her song ‘Set Fire to the Rain.’ Song of the Year went to Russell Antonoff, ‘We Are Young.’ Many of these popular categories went to modern day pop singers.

‘Dynamic Duo’ couples of the 2013 Grammys include country sweethearts Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton, Fun’s Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham, along with mystery couple Chris Brown and Rihanna, who was spotted wearing an engagement ring on her left hand.

On a whole different spectrum, actresses and actors from all around the U.S. obtain their own praise on Sunday evening, February 24th at 7 p.m. on CBS at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. Host of the Oscars, Seth McFarlane, provided a comical, light hearted night despite the tears of surprise and happiness from fellow actress/es.

Actress Anne Hathaway dominated the nominations for Best Actress, Best Leading Role and many more. Beautiful, young actress Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress in a Leading Role for Silver Linings Playbook, an instant success.

The famous play “Les Miserables” had several nominations in different categories. It won Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing and Best Supporting Actress awarded to Anne Hathaway. The winning of all awards for this film brought tears to the eyes of the whole cast, but in particular Hathaway, who was completely touched by the complexity of the behind the scenes work.

This red carpet affair brought classy, talented actors, actresses, artists and producers to light to be recognized for all of their hard work. The Academy Awards also recognizes the work done behind the scenes, which is often neglected. As 85 years of tradition, the Oscars is one of the most watched phenomenons on American television today.

Both social events bring a much needed life and recognize the talent that people often forget. Beautiful, elegant outfits capture the essence of the events, class is everything.
