Based on a true story, this movie faces the issues of stereotypes and the treatment of teen moms are in our society. 18 year-old Gaby Rodriguez (played by Alexa Vega) wanted to do her senior project about stereotyping in their community.

Gaby wanted to choose a topic that was close to her heart, because her mom (Judy Reyes) and sister-in-law were both teen moms. Gaby finally made up her mind that she wanted to try a controversial social experiment and pretend she was pregnant; fake belly and all.

Gaby was a straight-A honors student with a bright future ahead of her. Gaby was told her entire life she would become a teen mom, but she was out to prove everyone wrong.

The only people that know about this fake pregnancy are her mom, her boyfriend and her best friend. Gaby wanted everyone around her to write down all the comments they hear, the good, the bad and the ugly ones to prove a point.

Gaby soon makes a new friend, who is actually pregnant at school and they soon join together and try to tackle the prejudice about teenage mothers head on.

Gaby has a hard time adjusting to being “pregnant”. She says that no one sees her for her anymore; all they see is her belly. She is told over and over again how she threw her future away and just became another statistic.

At the end of the book, and pretending for six and a half months, Gaby gathers all her fellow classmates and teachers and reveals the truth about her senior project. She forces the community to own up to their wrong judgments and face the truth. Gaby ripped off the fake belly and shook up the community and taught them a valuable lesson.
