The fans of Vampire Academy have been fervently awaiting the movie adaptation for years, and finally the date has been set. The official Vampire Academy movie, Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, will be released Valentine’s Day of 2014.

All six books have been bestsellers on The New York Times young adult list since the series debuted in 2007. Two of the books have been turned into graphic novels. The books tell the tale of Rose Hathaway, a 17-year-old girl who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire best friend Lissa. The two girls attend a special school for Vampires who struggle to retain some humanity while other Vampires become more feral.

The cast for this long awaited movie is Lucy Fry as Lissa Dragomir, Danila Kozlovsky is cast as Dimitri Belikove, and Zoey Deutch will play Rose Hathaway on the silver screen. Although all three talented actors are fairly new to the big screen in the U.S., each has respective experience for their lead roles.

Along with all the action that takes place in the books romance is also present between Rose and Dimitri. But in their society two dhampir aren’t supposed to be together, let alone a teacher and a student. As the year goes on for them, the passion between them grows to an unmanageable level; they fall into the grip of a secret relationship that is ongoing throughout the entire series.
Most of the fans who have read the series will be hoping that the movie follows the true story line closely and not mess it up like Eragon, The Lightning Thief, The Hobbit and Twilight. The first two were so far off the storyline it wasn’t even funny, the last two stayed somewhat in line with the story but still held differences. With any luck Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters will live up to the expectations of its fans.
