Kaneland sports has been fundraising for many different reasons. In April, the wrestling team made a change to the community.
“We wanted to do something new and different from other sports,” senior wreslter David Barnhart said.
The Kaneland wrestling team has spent much of their time fundraising. It is community service based. The goal of giving back to the community was to raise money so the wrestlers could go to the Malecek Camp.
“We didn’t ask for money people just donated”, Barnhart
They accepted donations to get funds to make it possible
“We rose close to $5000. They were only required to pay $100 where as they would be paying close to $400 or more,” said Head Coach Micheal Thorgesen
Luckily, the wrestlers reached their goal with money left over. Afterward, they were soon off to Wisconsin Dells with many things n there schedule. Four days was enough time for the team to have fun but also get some crucial work done. Even though they were being taught technics and participated in tournaments/meets, the team still had time to relax and have fun at the waterparks.
“Camp was fun and acknowledging and there was a lot of sweating, hard working men”, senior wrestler Sonny Horn
Kaneland wrestlers are looking forward to a great season.
“We had some outstanding individuals, but struggled as a team. We know we’ll have some good wrestlers but really want more to come out and we plan on helping out the community in the future,” said Thorgesen
