Kaneland renewed its contract with GCA Services group, the company that provides custodians to Kaneland, this month.
GCA’s will run out this year, and limits required a rebid from various companies at that time. The school board opted to review the contract with GCA despite receiving several other bids, based on its prior service and the fact that it offers health care to its employees.
Proposals were submitted by three companies. Potential candidates included FBG Service Corporation, GCA Services Group and Perfect Cleaning Service, Inc. Several analysts including Dr. Julie-Ann Fuchs, Asst. Superintendent of Business, looked over the proposals.
The board may roll the GCA contract over for two additional years, if decided upon at that time.
At the school board meeting on April 9, Fuchs said that the country is moving in the direction where more employers are providing health insurance, and hiring a company that doesn’t would be a step backward.
With higher staff turnover caused by people who might quit to find a job with health insurance, more time would be spent constantly training new custodians and familiarizing them with Kaneland High School.
