The 32nd annual DeKalb Cornfest was held on the weekend of August 25th. It was filled with family activities, games, rides and lots of food. The head of Cornfest Lisa Angel worked extremely hard to organize the event so it would go as smoothly as possible.

According to Angel, the goal of the fest was something fun kids could go do for a back-to-school treat.

“[We had] helicopter rides, and you couldn’t do that at any other festival around,” said Angel.

Some fundraisers were also held at the fest that included raising awareness for autism and Cars for Cancer, a foundation that helps raise money for cancer patients.

Some current and former Kaneland students also attended the local event. Junior Lauren Black said she really enjoyed the festivities.

“The Cornfest is good for teenagers looking to go on rides and play games with their friends and for families to have a good time together,” said Black.

There was really something for everyone. The vintage car show and laser tag was a big hit among the community said Angel.

Kaneland graduate John Wooten, 18, said he enjoyed the open stage where the M&M dancers put on performances on Saturday.

Sophomore Berry Lipp attended with her friends and had a great time.

“It’s a fun carnival, and all my friends were there,” said Lipp.

All in all the Cornfest was a success Angel said.

“Even though it rained on Sunday, people still came out and volunteered. That reallyshowed us the dedication they had to the community,” Angel said.
