This week, the Kaneland Gay Straight Alliance passed out coupons to those at Kaneland to promote and recognize students who they have witnessed being kind to others around the school.

To participate in Kindness In Kaneland week, or KIK week, the Kaneland GSA made Kindness Coupons to pass out during the week.

The club members passed out slips of paper entitled “Kindness is contagious… Catch it!” to any student that they saw being nice or showing kindness to others during KIK week as a reward for friendly behavior.

“The purpose of the coupons is to help students recognize they’re doing something nice,” GSA advisor Kristen Dombek said.

GSA members looked for any type of kind act to give out the coupons. These kind acts could be anything from helping another student pick up their stuff that they dropped, holding doors open, or just complimenting someone.

“We want people to know there are always people watching and to take notice to the kindness in our own school, GSA President,Andriy McFarlin said.

Students who receive a coupon can take a photo of the coupon and post it to Twitter with the tag “#kikweek” and what they did to earn the ticket to win prizes from the GSA.
