Mr. Kaneland is in its eighth year of running at Kaneland High School. The event is a male pageant that consists of three parts: interview, talent and auction. All the money that was earned from the pageant is sent to help with breast cancer patients at the Delnor Center for Breast Health.
During the interview portion, questions will be asked that gives each contestant a chance to show off their personality. Some of the topics asked are about serious topics and some are goofy, fun questions.
Along with an interview portion, there is a talent part. In this round, each contestant is given a chance to show off their skills. Last year, the winner of Mr. Kaneland junior James Lim did a Taekwondo act with his brother. Most of the contestants sang or danced.
There were seven contestants involved in the competition this year. They are seniors Brad Kigyos, Chris Wido, Tucker DeBolt, Andrew Tobin, Alec Kovach, and Mike Karakourtis, junior Dalvell Triplett and sophomore Fernando Caballero.
The final event of the pageant is the auction. Everyone in the audience will be given a chance bid for a day with Mr Kaneland.
The auction winner will get to spend a day with the winner of the competition and be a “butler” to Mr. Kaneland. They will also get to spend lunch with him provided by peer-leadership.
With these events in the pageant, the boys will be awarded points. Most of the points will be earned through the fundraising category. The boys have been collecting donations around school and town for the Delnor Center for Breast Health.
Each contestant is selling pink wrist bands throughout the school day. Each bracelet will be five dollars and is a ticket to get into Mr. Kaneland. Tickets can also be bought the day of the pageant outside the auditorium at 6:00 p.m.
Peer-leadership will be running the event. These peer leaders are in charge of set up, running the pageant and organizing the day with Mr Kaneland. This is the first year the pageant will be student run. These students are seniors Kelsey Cotton, Lauren Banbury, Stephanie Maras, Alec Kovach and Megan Selenis. Also helping are juniors Taylor Corbett and Tatiana Guerrero.
This year, the event takes place Friday Feb. 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. To find out more, visit kaneland.org.
