A new art gallery called Art By Joseph is now open in Elburn. Joe Gagnepain displays drawings, paintings, sculpting, and even computer designs. According to his website Gagnepain has wanted to be an artist for as long as he can remember he creates artwork primarily from garbage like plastic or metal. . He likes to create things that are meaningful to society. Gagnepain has even made sculptures out of snow.
“I feel like Elburn kind of [lacks] in the aspect that we don’t have any other art outlets, an art gallery would totally 100 percent bring culture to the community,” sophomore Catalina Lopez said.
Most of his artwork is displayed outside for the world to see. Even in front of the Elburn gallery, there is a sculpture of a giraffe made out of metal materials. According to his website, the inspiration comes from many places and interaction with the public. Joe displays art in Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles and even Elgin.
Many students are excited about the new gallery.
“For the town I think it will bring more of a community feel to the area and spark an interest in local art,” sophomore Rachel Miller said.
Art is a big factor in everyday life. It is displayed in houses or even walking down the street. Art lets people express themselves and feel good about themselves.
“It is a huge part of so many peoples lives and it is awesome that they have a place to show it off,” Miller said.
It will be new to have something like this in the community.
“It’s different to have an art gallery in Elburn because it’s such a small town,” senior Anna Croft said.
The art gallery should bring culture to the Elburn community and be positive addition. Art By Joseph is located on rt. 38. For more information on the gallery go to artbyjoseph.com.
It is very important for teens to experience art according to Lopez, because “It inputs expression and freedom.”
