Sophomores and seniors had no problems finding their lockers this year. The majority were assigned the same locker and combination as last year, Ian Smith, assistant principal, said.
“Students will keep their same locker freshmen and sophomore year, then junior and senior year,” Smith said.
The change decreases transition issues.
“We wanted to allow students to stay in their lockers for two years. It causes fewer transitions for the students to get used to because they know where their classes are and how to get to them,” Smith said.
Sophomore Kayli Pinkston said she would prefer a locker on the main floor, but the change is convenient in some ways..
“It’s nice that I don’t have to re-memorize another locker and combination,” Pinkston said.
Some students found disadvantages though.
“It’s further from the parking lot,” senior Christian Limbo said
Many sophomores with classes downstairs are sharing lockers with friends on the main floor.
“Most of my classes are downstairs, which is why I share a locker with my friend to make it easier to get to my class,” sophomore Kaitlyn Barsic said.
Barsic is one of many who shares a locker with a friend in another hallway.
Smith said that was taken into consideration, which is why students don’t keep the same locker all four years.
“If we issued one locker, some students would be upstairs each year.” Smith said.
The freshmen lockers are primarily in the A hallway, sophomores are upstairs, juniors are in the north C hallway and by the Fox Valley Career Center, while seniors are in the B hallway.
Several sophomores complained about locker changes on Facebook.
“It’s always an honor to change hallways just because it proves that you’re growing up,” Pinkston said.
“I feel like we’re not given all the opportunities that every other class has. ” Pinkston said.
