The Kaneland boys’ track team won their first meet on Feb. 22, earning 100 points and defeating Yorkville (78), Grayslake North (68) and Sycamore (66).
“This is a young team and were looking for big things,” senior Sean Carter said.
For their first meet, the boys’ team had 11 members take first in their events. Brandon Bishop won the 55-meter hurdles, triple-jump and 55-meter dash. Nate Dyer won shot put, and Kyle Carter, Clayton Brundige, Nathaniel Kucera and Luis Acosta won the 4×800 relay. Brandon Cottier, Nathaniel Kucera, Brandon Bishop and Miki Marin also won the 4×400 relay.
“Expectations for this team are set very high,” head sprint coach Patrick Ryan said.
For most of the team, the goal is to win conference and make it to state. Alex Gil, who is returning from injury, is one of the members trying to make it to state this year.
“I’m just returning after surgery and just stating to get back into it,” Gil said.
The next upcoming meet is on Mar. 17 at the NIB 12 Conference Meet in Sterling.
“We encourage the students of Kaneland to come down and support the boys’ track team,” Ryan said.
