Kaneland Knights boys sports recap

The Knights have been doing very well in the fall sports.  The golf team has begun with an 8-3 record.  The remainder of the season looks very promising with no injuries so far.  Senior number one golfer Matt Yonkovich shot a 37 against Sterling’s Golden Warriors. On Thursday against Jacobs, Yonkovich shot a 36 while senior Brody Kuhar and freshman Jake Hed both scored 34’s.  Junior Jeremy Faletto shot a 42 to finish out the win.

KHS football has also had a great start to the season with a 4-0 record. The Knights beat Sterling in a 48-7 running clock win. Senior Nate Dyer had three touchdowns and 97 yards.  Senior Drew David threw for two touchdowns and also ran one in.

The Knights crushed Streator in a 42-0 victory.  David threw for five touchdowns and ran another in.  On the defensive end, Senior Cole Carlson had a key interception inside the Knights 30 yard line that kept the Bulldogs score line at 0. That game concludes the cross conference games for the Knights 2013 season.

Kaneland soccer has started off across the board.  They have a record of 3-3-1.

Against IMSA the Knights won a 9-1 victory. The Knights lost against Dekalb on the barbs home turf.  Ignacio Toscano scored a header, but it wasn’t enough as the Barbs scored 3 goals. Against Morris the Knights tied 1-1 as Morris scored late in a close game.

On Thursday 26, the Knights tied Yorkville in a close 0-0 game.

Kaneland cross country has started a great season.  They have displayed their power in the past meets, and they recently raced at the First to the Finish Invitational at Peoria’s Detweiller Park three mile course.  They placed 11th out of a 52-team field.  The Invitational had 13 of the top 25 ranked teams race with number one ranked Illiana Christian winning it.  Nine other NIB 12 teams raced and only yorkville beat the knights.

The team placed 6th in their own 44th annual Eddington invitational at Elburn Woods.  The team did well with Ryan Bower beating his personal record time by 26 seconds and Andrew Lesak beating his by almost a minute. Kyle Carter raced after recovering from a lower leg injury. All of the sports have started well and the remainder of their seasons look promising.
