Disney princesses made real
The “timeless classics” of the Disney animated movies are beginning to come to life in a whole new way. The first classic movies to get a makeover is Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. Senior Maddie Heinzer believes that the move to these live action movies is a good thing.
“I think its a good idea to bring in live actors to these movies because they’ve grown up loving these stories. Now they can be a part of the productions and interpret how they think the characters would be,” Heinzer said.
In 2015 expect a new Cinderella to hit theaters, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James as your Cinderella.
“The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Drisella into the family home. But, when Ella’s father suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family,” Disney said in a press release.
“I hope it holds true to the Disney story, but I think it will be good because it gives a more adult look and I think that will bring more people back to Disney. Disney isn’t just for kids anymore,” senior Brittany Kemp said.
Maleficent, is the new take on Sleeping Beauty that is set to come out on May 30, 2014, starring Elle Fanning a Princess Aurora and Angelina Jolie as Maleficent.
“I think it would be difficult to keep the magical quality of Disney because people have grown attached to these movies, and if they see the stories portrayed differently, they might have negative views,” Heinzer said.
