Get to know the school board candidates
The election to choose top candidates for the school board will take place on April 7, 2015, and is open to everyone in the community.
Peter Lopatin
Peter Lopatin of Sugar Grove is fairly new to the Kaneland community. Lopatin was appointed to the school board before and is the son of an educator. Lopatin’s priorities of being a member would include financial planning, technology being used to complete potential for educational purposes and adding human resources.
Gale Pavlak
Gale Pavlak of Elburn is accumbent to the board, and she currently serves as the secretary. Pavlak was elected four years ago and said she would provide balance and dedication. She would have test score improvements as a top concern and the needs of everyone in the district in mind.
Teresa Witt
Teresa Witt of Sugar Grove currently serves as the vice president since 2012. Witt is a 12 year resident and has three children who attended Kaneland schools. If Witt were to continue this position, she would focus on providing the best opportunities for the district, retaining teachers and enforcing standard procedures of the board.
Tony Valente
Tony Valente of Sugar Grove has a track record of working within the school and community. Valente has been awarded outstanding principal of the year and raised grades in three different schools. According to Valente, he can increase student achievement and work within the community. Valente said he can offer more services and “do more with less.”
Ryan Kerry
Ryan Kerry of Elburn is a 11 year resident. Kerry is a co-owner of a small business. Kerry thinks the taxes and education should go hand in hand, not one being more expensive than the other (he is not pictured in the photo gallery of the featured candidates).
Pamela Vorhees
Pamela Voornees of Maple Park has been living in Maple Park for 22 years. Voornees volunteers at her church in her free time and is a former employee of Waubonsee Community College and Northern Illinois University. Voornees’s main concern is the development of trust in the community.
Jerry Elliot
Jerry Elliot of Aurora is a newer face in the Kaneland community. Elliot came to the board hoping to motivate and understand the learning process from a student perspective. He hopes to accomplish the aspect of working as a group to best accommodate students needs. Elliot has a lot of desire to help students reach their full learning potential by achieving their goals and hopes to create more opportunities to work with the community.
