ABC Family’s Switched At Birth is a previous hit show that is back and ready for its second season comeback.
Last season, the show left off with the most chaotic senior prom. Emmett Bledsoe (Sean Berdy) asked his girlfriend Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano) to his school’s prom by romantically handing her a pair of earplugs because deaf proms are insanely loud. Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc) wanted to ask her exclusive partner, Wilke (Austin Butler), but she didn’t know how. With Bay’s help, they put together a really creative way of asking him by taping “Wilke Wanted” posters around the school and using handcuffs to grab his attention. Without seeing it coming, Wilke apologetically declined Daphne’s offer because he had to write a big paper that night.
Although Daphne was down about not going to prom with Wilke, Bay took the pressure off by saying they could all go as a big group: Emmett, Bay, Daphne and her friend from school.
Before they went to the dance floor, Bay wanted to go see her dad, Angelo Sorrento(Gilles Marini). So, Emmett was sweet enough to take Bay wherever she wanted, which was to the Immigration Services. Bay and her father talked for about five minutes, and then she left stressed and not knowing what to think because he wanted a lawyer. If Angelo didn’t have a lawyer, there was no way he wasn’t going to be sent back to Italy.
At the prom, everybody was having a good time, including John (D.W. Moffett) and Kathryn (Lea Thompson) Kennish. But all was said too soon because when Wilke showed up, Daphne was upset with him for lying to her about writing his paper. Instead he was going to be sent to boarding school. Because Daphne questioned him, Emmett felt the sudden need to confess to Bay that he slept with Simone the night of the basketball tournament.Bay left rightfully angry, but Daphne forgave quickly and lived in her last Wilke moments. The season ended in stress, shock and wonder, making it a nail biter to have to wait for Season two.
In the Season two premiere episode of the show, Bay returns home from her school adventure in the Galapagos Islands. She has quite the story to tell and brings someone to prove it: a new boyfriend. Although, it’s not that surprising considering she has had three previous boyfriends one after another.
A couple days later, Kathryn has a party for her new book release. The book is about her family’s journey towards their switch at birth. Not only is the party a big hit, but the book is, too. Bay’s new friend decides to read it, and he figures out there was something Bay forgot to tell him down on the island.
Another year at Buckner High starts. When Bay runs into Simone in the hallway, she is completely appalled. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with Simone, even when she apologizes. I’m sure if I was in Bay’s situation I would be giving Simone some lip too.
At home, Bay receives a letter from Emmett. Inside is a map which takes her to a random factory. Expecting Emmett to be there, Bay finds something else. Emmett painted a timeline of all the important moments in their relationship, including his mishap with Simone. The part that had me the most, though, was the end where he put a heart with their initials in it, and it said “Bay and Emmett forever”. Getting a girl back is a hard thing to achieve, and he succeeds in the “sweetheart” category for boyfriends.
All of this commotion with Emmett trying to get “his girl” back leads to Bay breaking up with her Galapagos guy so she can have some time to sort things out.
As we all know, Daphne is a really hard-working girl, who is always determined to finish what she started. In this episode, she goes on 12 interviews for job openings at local restaurants. No luck. She is really successful in the interviews until she mentions she is deaf and they no longer want her anymore. This is really selfish. If she meets the criteria, then why not give her a chance? This is when Kathryn comes to the rescue and gets Daphne a job at one of her friend’s restaurants. At first she is great, but when a little accident occurs, the boss demotes her to dishwasher, which isn’t what she has in mind at all.
In the courtroom, there is so much anxiety and anticipation, you could cut it with a knife. Because Angelo is an immigrant, he is on trial. He wants to stay and make things right with his daughters and ex-wife, but the unexpected shows up and the judge demands he go back to Italy. This makes Bay feel like her world is tearing apart because she just met her father. So, Regina wants to make things right. She hurries back to the courtroom and decides to marry Angelo, so he can stay in the country. Their future together is going to be a hot mess.
I can’t wait to see what happens in the rest of the season. Will Emmett and Bay get back together? How will the family take it when they find out Regina and Angelo got married? Will Daphne stay working for more than her love for her job? Will Kathryn become too busy to spend time with the family? Tune in every Monday at 8/7 central to finish the story on ABC Family.
