“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” a captivating continuation

Surprisingly, Black Widow’s (Scarlett Johansson) and Captain America’s (Chris Evans) dialogue exchange was natural and often unedited, as both are friends on and off the screen.

Whether it’s just “another superhero release” to you or your “all-time favorite character’s new movie,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is definitely worth at least one run through.

Released this past Friday on April 4, the movie has broken records for biggest April release with an impressive $96.2 million dollars, according to the website IGN.

Chris Evans (Captain America) returns in this star-spangled sequel with Black Widow Scarlett Johansson as they are sent out by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury to rescue a captured ship. On the upside for the viewers, we’re introduced early into Captain America’s continuous bravery and loyalty with awesome action-packed scenes, but on the downside for our ancient American, he finds out his mission was different from his female companion. Furious at Fury, he returns to confront the man, but our favorite eye-patched S.H.I.E.L.D. director is facing his own confusion as he finds himself the target of what seem to be average “good guys.”

Oh, and remember Sebastian Stan? Captain’s old pal Bucky? Well, his dark eyes and new appearance make a compelling contrast to our red, white and blond hero. Finally, with friendly Falcon (Anthony Mackie) joining the cast, it’s a complete set of butt-kicking heroes to cheer on and love.

Evans, the former co-star of The “Fantastic Four” movies as the Human Torch, made a huge splash in the first Captain America movie and The Avengers. He entrances the audience again as we see the inner struggle of the Captain against a compromised S.H.I.E.L.D.

Johansson, who earned Golden Globe nominations in “Girl with a Pearl Earring” and “Lost in Transition” and our leading lady in this American sequel, showed that she is not just a looker, but can also take out as many of the opposing side as she wants. Side by side with Captain American was where she needed to be. Johansson displayed her moves in this action-thriller, proving that she is the right person for the role of Black Widow.

And no one can forget Jackson as Fury, infamous for tying most of Marvel’s superheroes together. Jackson just seems to never stop playing big roles in big time movies. The former star of “Pulp Fiction” as Jules added his talented acting to what was a already prestigious cast. Jackson is the perfect role for Fury; cold and hiding all of his feeling inside of him.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” spins a tale of a modern world needing old-school morals, of a society plagued by violence and distrust that would spy on its own people to keep the peace. This movie ties nicely into the Marvel world nicely, but also works well as a stand alone. Rotten Tomatoes gave this Marvel marvell an 88 percent and IMDB stamped it at a solid 8.3 out of 10, so why not pick up Captain’s old shield for a new shot?
