Coldplay tour break leads to new album
March 14, 2014
Don’t worry Coldplay fans, the “bad news” is false. Rumors that were recently circulating about the supposed “three year break” have officially been shut down. After telling an audience in Australia that the band would “be away for three years,” lead singer Chris Martin clarified to newspaper Daily Star that he miscommunicated. Martin said that the band would not be touring for a number of years, but he is already hard at work writing songs for their new album.
The well-known British band is back again with more music for our ears. Ghost Stories, a new nine track record, is going to be released on May 19, 2014. To advertise and get the word out, the group has already released audio of a song from the album called “Magic” that, if pre-ordered, can be downloaded now on iTunes. Along with that, a release of another song from the album is also available for download. “Midnight” shows the darker side of the band.
“Coldplay released a new track from the album, called “Midnight,” which is a haunting, Bon Iver-esque pivot from their usual sound,” Megan Gibson from TIME magazine said.
The song, featuring their usual electronic-based sound, differs from their usual upbeat, on-top-of-the-world persona. It remains constant with the beat keeping the mysterious effect. Knowing Coldplay’s usual tendencies when it comes to their music, this song could easily give fans chills.
Coldplay became internationally recognized after releasing their first single “Yellow” in 2000. Ever since, the band has been adequate on releasing new songs and albums to keep their fans in tune. Over the past 13 years, the band has released five LPs, one EP and two live albums. Coldplay is now coming off of their tour including cities all over the world. According to Forbes, their national tour brought in nearly $3 million per city.
They are not only known for their unique sound, but also their unique and thrilling performances. They have adopted a style of contemporary electronic sound, yet keeping their famous guitars and piano parts in with the mix. As for their concert performances, there is definitely no black and white. Pops of color and graffiti are featured everywhere you look, as well as a new addition to the tour: wristbands. These wristbands light up in tune with each song making the whole audience glow in glory.
According to chicagonow, Coldplay has been nominated for 20 Grammy awards, winning seven total. The band has also been known to give 10-15 percent of their profits to charity. And straying away from the normal rockstar behaviors, the band has sworn that anyone in the band who uses hard drugs will be kicked out.
This unique group has made their mark worldwide.
“The root of all this is to do with our friendship. There’s a song on the album called “Us Against The World”, and that’s definitely the feeling at the moment. We’ve been through every single cliché that a band goes through, from addictions to film-star marriages,” Martin said on an interview with Daily Mail.
