December 17: Top Five Christmas Movies and Reviews

After a long day in the cold snow with friends and family, curling up on the couch with a fire crackling, a cup of hot chocolate and a Christmas movie playing is the best way to spend a cold Christmas night. No matter what kind of movie you are in the mood for there is a Christmas movie for you. A comedy, “Home Alone Christmas”; a light hearted drama, “It’s a Wonderful Life”; a classic christmas movie, “A Christmas Story”; a family movie; “Santa Clause”; or a romance, “A Bride for Christmas”.

“Home Alone Christmas” is comical movie for the whole family to enjoy together. Main character, Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, is left home alone when his family of 19 leaves on a plane to Paris for the holiday. The movie follows Kevin as he fends for himself with a duo of robbers trying to break into his home. Kevin’s signature response to the robbers disruption is “Merry Christmas ya filthy animal.” This is a great movie for kids seven years or older, considering some of the scenes may be too intense for younger children.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” has a light hearted dramatic plot that follows George Bailey, played by James Stewart, as he is reminded of the impact he has made on the world. George is told as a reminder that “Each man’s life changes so many other lives.” Ideas mentioned throughout the movie are not appropriate for younger children, I recommend this movie to people 12 years or older.

“A Christmas Story” is a traditional holiday movie for all members of the family. Viewers follow on a journey with the Parker family as they prepare in anticipation for Christmas morning. The movie provides entertaining jokes for adults and laughter for children. Inappropriate language and topics are displayed in the movie, unsuitable for anyone under the age of eight.

The series of “Santa Claus” movies introduces Christmas to children from all over the world as Scott Calvin, played by Tim Allen, goes from being a successful businessman to the boss of hundreds of elves as Santa Claus. Scott or Santa is faced with multiple challenges as he delivers presents to everyone. I love these movies and think that they are great movies for entertaining impatient kids on a snow day. Children four years or older will enjoy the crazy journey with Santa. The movie ends with the famous santa claus quote “Merry christmas to all and to all a good night”.

A commonly aired Hallmark movie “A Bride for Christmas” follows the ups and downs of Jessie Patterson’s, played by Arielle Kebbel, love life. Jessie has chickened out on one wedding after another when she starts see one of her clients Aiden, played by Andrew Walker. After questioning their relationship Jessie and Aiden have a decision to make. This is a great romance movie for anyone 11 years or older.
