Fatal car crash brings community together

Sophomores Seth Egger and Allison Bradford were killed in a car crash involving four other Aurora Central Catholic students Tuesday March 10. The students were headed to a Rochelle basketball game when their SUV crashed into a semi truck. A 17 year old ACC student was driving in heavy fog when he missed a red light and collided with the truck, crushing the top portion of the SUV.

A mass was held at ACC for  students and neighboring Catholic schools.

Although these students attended a different school there has been a lot of support from Kaneland students, especially on social media.

“I didn’t know anyone involved, but I did see a lot of pictures and videos posted on twitter and instagram, there was one where Seth was smiling sitting in the back of a car that everybody loved and said it described him perfectly,” sophomore Heather Briggs said.

Students who didn’t know Seth or Ally are still showing support by donating money to help with funeral costs on GoFundMe.com. These accounts have been set up by relatives to support the families affected by this tragedy.

“Even though I didn’t know them I still wanted to donate, it hit close to home knowing they both lived near me and they were the same age as me,” Briggs said.

So far the accounts have raised around $60,000.

Students who did know someone involved in the accident are learning how to handle this tragedy.

“After I got home from basketball practice my sister told me what happened and I was in shock, I knew Seth, I just started crying,” sophomore Kylie Modaff said.

The shocking nature of these student’s death has led to students finding all memories of Seth or Ally and sharing them with each other.

A short video posted on twitter shows police cars and ambulance surrounding a car crash titled “Last words mean everything love you Seth, love you Ally,”

“Me and Seth were supposed to hangout the week that he died, I just try not to think about it and know that he is in a better place,” said Modaff.

All this support has reached Aurora Central Catholic students and is recognized as something great.

“It was really nice for Marmion and Rosary to show support, but having Kaneland’s support is really amazing considering our schools aren’t that close,” ACC senior Analiy Gonzalez said.
