Friday night football, homecoming, hallways and art are all things that Kaneland students share. It is very rare that we think about the talents we have in common. The talent show is one of the events where we can be brought together and share one thing.

The night was started with seniors Anthony Romano and Jon Turnya as the MC’s. With a sweet beginning sophomore Hannah Leeper and FCS teacher Judy Fabrizius sang Turn it Loose giving an energetic, “hip-bumping” performance which showcased the friendly relationships between Kaneland teachers and their students.

Later on, seniors Chase Hittmeier, Chris Overstreet and junior Jack Kilgore made an amazing performance of Little Dreamer by Van Halen. Overstreet shocked the crowd with his stunning vocals and guitar skills right at the beginning of the song and through the entire performance.

The thought of having hidden talent amongst the halls of KHS was proven true when freshman Hannah Medina sang Bring me to life by Evanescence. From the minute she started to sing, she had the crowd in her palms — as they clapped in amazement — the happiness on her face showed. She giggled in the middle of her song, but continued to blow away the audience. Her performance was followed by a standing ovation and a humble exit.

To top off the show, para-pro Jenny Lupa showed her hidden talent and performed two original songs, as well as a former Kaneland student.

The memorable talent show was finished off by Equinox, a band containing sophomores Nick Zoppa, Gunnar Magnuson, Jordan Bridge, and junior Matt Zoppa. An amazing performance of Baker street featuring Magnuson singing vocals.

Overall, the talent show helped show the hidden talents that lie beneath the surface of the “ready to learn” students here at Kaneland High School.
