Junior Class Presidents: Julia Lemp and Shannon Gilkey
March 5, 2015
Due to a tied vote, two Juniors, Julia Lemp and Shannon Gilkey, were both elected Junior Class President for this year.
Junior co-class President Julia Lemp wanted to become the class president because she has a lot of school spirit and enjoys helping other people.
“I think people voted for me because I’d like to think that I could make a difference and that people trust me,” Lemp said.
Lemp explains that so far this year, her and co-class President Shannon Gilkey were in charge of decorating hallways and planning for homecoming week as well as shopping for supplies.
As far as changing things for the better in and around the school, Lemp explains what she thinks needs to be done. “I’d like to work on bringing students together and having more school spirit,” Lemp said.
Lemp hopes to continue on as her class’s president and run again her senior year.
In her free time, Lemp enjoys reading, playing soccer, and hanging out with her friends.
In addition to Lemp, junior co-class President Shannon Gilkey ran for class president because she enjoys interacting with her grade.
“I really love everyone in my grade, and I wanted to have the opportunity to make changes and make things fun and effective,” Gilkey said.
Gilkey believes that her positive attitude and kindness towards others as well as friends voting for her is what made her a co-class president.
While Gilkey explains she doesn’t have any more power to change things than that of a non-class president, she does explain what could be changed if the student body as a whole came together to work to prosper. “I personally would like to see more school spirit and attendance at sports games, choir related events and clubs. I think we just need to come together as a whole, especially in the community,” Gilkey said.
Gilkey likes to write, shop with friends, and do volunteer work in her free time.
