Lady Midnight proves to be a perfect summer reading
May 13, 2016
To those who are fans of supernatural and fantasy books, “Lady Midnight” is a must-read.
Author Cassandra Clare has written two other book series that follow the same topic, “The Infernal Devices” and “The Mortal Instruments.”
Both series involve a type of being called Shadowhunters, nephilim, or half human half angel, they hunt down demons and protect the normal humans and the not so normal humans. The series were so intertwined that they fell together perfectly. Sometimes I had to stop reading and wonder how Clare was able to pull it all together.
“Lady Midnight” follows five years after the last book in the series “The Mortal Instruments.” Emma Carstairs the lead character, is investigating the murders of 12 people all found the same way her parents were killed five years ago: washed up from the ocean with burns on their skin, and an unreadable language written on their bodies.
Even with the help of the Blackthorn family, Julian, Ty, Livvy, Dru and Tavvy, they still have trouble solving the murders. It’s not until the Fair Folk, who have been exiled from the lives of Shadowhunters, bring forth new information and a task.
The task entitled them to solve the murders in two weeks and the Blackthorns long lost brother Mark, who was taken by the group The Wild Hunt five years ago, will be free. Given a very tight leash, Mark is able to return home for the time being, at least until the two weeks are up. Now the Blackthorns and Emma race against the clock before time runs out.
“Lady Midnight” included all things that I love in a book, mystery, suspense, supernatural beings, love, and of course action. This book will make you feel as though you are a part of the story, living through the characters. It will also give you some lessons on the importance of family and the dangers of love. Not everything in the book is sappy though, the chapters are action packed and filled with suspense that leave you wanting more by the end.
I absolutely loved this book, on a scale of one to five, it’s definitely a five. Cassandra Clare was able to create a spell-binding book that had me reading non-stop. It pulled me in and left me wanting more by the time I finished the book. “Lady Midnight” is not your typical fantasy book, it shows that there’s a darkness in every fairy tale.
