First introduced in 1970, the Shamrock Shake has become a well-known minty treat around the United States. This limited-time beverage sold at McDonald’s proves to be a classic cooler. For those who wish to taste this delightful refreshment year-round, this easy recipe is sure to entertain your taste-buds.

Before attempting to create this concoction, compile the following items: measuring cups, blender, a cup, a straw, vanilla ice cream, milk of your preference, mint extract and green food coloring. Along with these components, whipped cream, sprinkles and/or the classic cherry on top can be the perfect addition.

To begin, take two cups of vanilla ice cream and scoop them into the blender. To increase the amount, add more ice cream if desired.

After putting the ice cream into the blender, measure out 1 ¼ cups of milk. The milk can be of preference such as whole, low-fat, skim or 2 percent.

The next step is to add ¼ teaspoon of mint extract. Be careful of the amount added because this substance is strong tasting.

Before blending the ingredients together, add approximately 8-10 drops of green food coloring for that festive look. If it is not the shade of green preferred, adding more food coloring can improve the appearance.

Once all of the elements are together, blend it for about a minute. If it isn’t as smooth, continue to blend for a longer period of time.

After it is blended, pour the shake into a cup. Whipped cream is optional, as well as putting a cherry or sprinkles on top. This is a creation, so adding different toppings is optional.

Put a straw in the cup if wished and then enjoy. Hopefully this beverage satisfies those minty cravings. Let us know how your shake turned out by tweeting @kanelandkrier and show us a photo of your green creation.
