Dystopian themes are appearing more and more in teen books. From The Hunger Games to The Giver this popular genre, is becoming more prominent in students lives. Victoria Aveyard’s novel Red Queen, doesn’t disappoint the eager youth readers.
In the novel, main character Mare Barrow lives in a world where people are separated by the type of blood they have. Red-bloods are commoners, while the silver-blooded are surrounded by a glamorous and powerful lifestyle. The reason for the divided society is primarily the cause of one simple fact: silver-bloods have special abilities. Due to their powers, they live life controlling the Reds, and forcing them to do the dirty work of war.
Aveyard absolutely gives readers a satisfying and thrilling story. With a fast paced plot, I never had a chance to catch my breath. Cliffhanger, after cliffhanger seen repetitively throughout the book. Of course with a book filled with danger, there is sure to be a plot twist and I have to say, what a mighty fine twist it is. With the villin turning out to be a loved character, this book left me speechless.
I would rate this book 5/5; I absolutely loved this book. Red Queen has all the characteristics that a story should have. With it’s second book out, I can’t wait to get my hands on it and enthrall myself once again into Barrow’s world. With a plot consisting of betrayal, romance, action and royalty, Red Queen makes an exhilarating read.
