Riding to her dream
In late October, sophomore Julia Pratte was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma cancer.
Ewing Sarcoma is a cancerous tumor that grows from soft tissue to the bones. At this point in time, the cancer has not spread to Pratte’s bones. She will be going through 26 weeks of intense chemotherapy. Pratte is currently being treated inpatient at Advocate Childrens Hospital in Chicago.
Classmates and teachers alike missing having her in class.
“Julia is an energetic, fun girl who was always smiling,” Thomas Fedderly said.
Students have already begun to show support. Choir classes have recorded videos of them singing and sent them to her.
Fundraisers are being planned for upcoming basketball games. T-shirts have been sold and proceeds went towards the Pratte Family.
“We’ve raised about $1,500 at this point,” Special Education teacher, Nora Tomasik, said.
St. Baldricks is a childhood cancer charity. The foundation raises money for children’s cancer research. For this charity, volunteers shave their heads to support all kids fighting cancer. All are welcome.
“I will be going to St. Baldricks in honor of Julia,” Freshman Mason Jendruczek said.
Tomasik has spearheaded the fundraisers and worked with Pratte.
“Julia is a sweetheart. Once you meet her, it’s hard not to love her,” Special Education teacher, Tomasik said.
Let’s continue to show Pratte we’re supporting her.
