Taylor Swift brings anything but “bad blood” to Chicago
July 25, 2015
This past weekend, female artist, Taylor Swift took the city by storm when she decided to shake it off at Soldier Field. Swift proved all her haters wrong when she was not only able to sell out one night at Soldier Field, but two, with a whopping 55,000 people per night. Although this achievement shocked some, it did not surprise me as she put on an incredible show Sunday, July 19(the second night of her two-night stand in Chicago).
Swift set the scene, when she generously gave each fan a light up bracelet as they went through security. Although the bracelets were not the cutest accessory, the minute they started to light up to the beat fans were less concerned about making a fashion statement, and more concerned about having a good time.
Singing songs mainly from her 2014 pop album ‘1989’ Swift started the night out by singing “Welcome to New York,” which really made the fans go “cray cray for Tay Tay” as they danced to the music and echoed the artist when the microphone pointed to them.
Since Swift’s first album was released in 2006, she has been the punch line for all jokes about bad relationships. Although, many of her former albums were centered around sappy love stories and relationships gone wrong, ‘1989’ resembles the rebirth of a “new Taylor.” Recently, Swift has strayed away from complicated relationships and focused more on transforming herself into someone for young girls to look up to.
Her transformation did not go unnoticed Sunday night when she strutted up and down the stage, confidently, bringing attention to girl power and individuality(don’t worry about what other people think of you).
Swift began to touch the hearts of fans in the stadium when she expressed how important friendship is in life (she didn’t believe she had any for a long time). To stress just how essential friendship is, Swift dusted off her cowgirl boots and surprised fans by bringing out her friend and country singer Sam Hunt.
After Swift’s duet with Hunt, she proceeded to sing other songs from her album as well as a few throwbacks. One of my personal favorite performances of the night was her mashup of “Enchanted” and “Wonderland.” The collaboration was magical, considering she not only sang, but also played the piano.
Switching to a more upbeat path, another one of my favorites of the night included “All you had to do was stay.” With the constant fist bumping and hair flipping, this performance without a doubt was empowering.
After four anchors, Swift closed the night with her hit song “Shake it off.” The music was so upbeat, energy was practically bouncing off the walls. The crowd’s reaction to this jam was unforgettable.
Overall, the production tied together well with the sparkly costumes, endowed dancers, talented band, fireworks and dazzling bracelets. Swift without a doubt brought style to Chicago, even though she wasn’t going on about her long list of ex-lovers.
