The Traveling Dancer

Every year at NIU UDA dance camp Kaneland Poms goes to learn new dances and get advice from professional dancers to improve their skills, a select few from each team compete in an All-American dance. They go to the gym about 30 minutes before everyone else each day to learn a dance and on the last day they all perform it 2-3 at a time and the judges choose who they want to represent UDA at the New Years Eve parade in London, England.

Senior Tatiana Guerrero was one of the few chosen to go to London and perform in the parade for UDA.

“My junior year of high school I tried out for All-American. This program allowed me to go to London and dance in their New Year’s day parade,” Guerrero said.

She said her experience was extremely memorable and she would love to go back if she had the chance.

“While I was there I was able to visit Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, and the Birmingham Palace,” Guerrero said.

Dancing is very important to her she spends hours on end practicing and getting ready for performances. She is a captain this year on the Kaneland Poms team and has been on the team since she was a freshman.

Guerrero is also part of the poms competition team who placed   in competition last year.

While in London Guerrero met many new people with the same interests and dedication as her.

“It was an amazing experience and I met so many new dancers from all over America,” Guerrero said.
