Administration takes action to make students feel safe

Over the course of the last two weeks, KHS has received threats of violence towards the student body on two separate occasions.  These threats were found as graffiti in the school bathrooms.

“The threats have been in confidential places, so it’s places that are difficult to monitor,” superintendent Dr. Todd Leden said.

Following those threats, the school administration took actions to make sure the students were safe. The school works with emergency workers to prevent any dangerous events from happening.  Threats like these could affect everyone in the school, including teachers and students.

“Our safety plans are always under review; we work with our local emergency personnel, both police and also fire and EMT safety personnel to make sure our plans are up to date,” Leden said.

When the school is threatened, students can get distracted, which ruins the learning environment.  There are steps that students can take to prevent threats and violence in the school.

“We would greatly appreciate if other students who come aware of any of this contact us, whether it’s anonymously on the safety tip hotline, let a teacher know, or let another student know who’s comfortable to go tell a teacher,” Leden said.

When students follow these steps, they can help create a safer school and a better learning environment for everyone.
