“It’s the best class ever,” junior Shannon Herra said.

PE Leadership is a class where students help teach and make friends with the students with special needs here at Kaneland. In order to join the class, a prospective student must go through an application process as well as an interview with PE Leadership teacher Brian Willis.

“I’ve been involved in PE Leadership for two years now, and it’s such an incredible program. Just getting to interact and help the kids grow into amazing people. It’s a great feeling walking into class everyday to see their smiling faces, because we really make their day, everyday,” senior Bryanna Stoiber said.

Around the school, students often see the PE Leadership group either in the lunch room selling candy or in the hallway handing out flowers.

“We used to sell candy in the cafeteria and we sell carnations around Valentines Day,” senior Sydney Strang said.

As well as selling these flowers and candies, PE Leadership often works concessions for sporting events and takes field trips.

“We work concessions sometimes with them and the funds that we make go to our field trips and it helps teach [the students with special needs] social skills. We go to the movies and out to eat so they can get those experiences,” Herra said.

All these activities add up to make the class of PE Leadership, which again, according to Herra, is the best class ever.
