Kaneland’s marching band placed first in percussion at the Marengo Marching Competition, where the band and color guard competed with several area schools.

“Our drum line just did a good job in general, as they always do,” freshman John Purnell said.

Judges evaluated the band and color guard in several areas.

“We are judged on individually marching, artillery, general music and drum line,” a color guard captain senior Sarah Kitz said.

The two groups competed against area school  including Sycamore, Sandwich, Marengo, Rochelle and WIU, senior Veronica Peterson said.

Though color guard did not place in the competition, sophomore Angie Franks said the team has improved its routines greatly.

The next competitions are at Sandwich on Oct. 16 and WIU on Oct. 30.
