Battle of the Bands Showcases Talent

Students and staff participated in the Battle of the Bands and performed several sets in the auditorium.

Kaneland’s Battle of the Bands took place on Thursday, February 26th. It featured three student bands, as well as math teacher Tim Larsen’s band, The Bare Hambones.

Students from Kaneland Jazz Band performed first. This group of teens included James Tockstein, Dean Divizio, Katelyn Blazinski, John Lim, Gunner Magnison, Nick Zoppa, Matt Zoppa, Louis Perillo and Chris Overstreet. In total, they played three sets.

Next up was Holiday Revisited featuring students from Jazz Band. Overstreet created a unique performance by revamping his saxophone. In addition the band recreated Divizio’s performance from Mr. Kaneland.

The third and final student band to perform was Matt Zoppa’s band Shadow for Sale. The band consists of Zoppa as well as student’s from other school’s. They played 5 songs, all of which had vocals.

The next band to play was Tim Larsen’s band, the Bare Hambones. They played Folk Rock and all songs featured vocals by Larsen.

“It was a lot of fun. The highlight clearly was working with Puckett and the students to put a collaboration together,” said Larsen.

The final group to play was a collection of students and teachers. Teachers included Tim Larsen on keyboard and vocals, Aaron Pucket on drums, Emily VanDelinder-Birchfield on vocals and accordion and Christina Staker on vocals. Students include Dean Divizio on bass, James Tockstein and Matt Zoppa on guitar and Jade Sadowski, Aimee Frost, Nicole DiSandro, Alex Herbert, and Lanita Vandershaaf.

Holiday Revisited ending up earning the most donations overall with their unique electronic sound and creative ways to make their music their own.
