What’s easy to do, gets a person a free pair of pajama pants and saves three lives? Giving blood.
On Nov. 12, Kaneland High School’s Student Council ran a blood drive to benefit area blood banks. Any students over the age of 16 were allowed to participate, with parental consent.
“We usually have a blood drive about every three months,” junior Tommy Whittaker, Student Council member, said.
Student Council members ran the blood drive, with members helping blood donors fill out paperwork and handing out food when donors were finished.
“We’re trying to get 129 units of blood,” Javier Martinez, Student Council sponsor, said. “We take the best [count of blood] we’ve had in the past two years at the blood drive and add on to it, so this year, our goal’s 129.”
Giving blood might be somewhat scary if it’s the student’s first time, but it isn’t as bad as it looks, junior Lacy Eberle, a blood donor, said.
“It’s fine,” she said. “It was no big deal.” ”
Giving blood is good because it saves lives,” Krissy Chapman, Student Council member, said.
