Got a shirt that your grandma got you for Christmas and you never wear? Drop it off in front of the school in the USAgain box instead of letting it sit in your closet.

The Brighter Future club created a clothing drive that started on October 15 and ends on November 15, which also happens to be National Recycling Day.

The Brighter Future club was created three years ago with the help of counselor Andrew Franklin to make the school and world around us a better place. When cross country became Franklin’s main priority so Laura McPhee, Fox Valley Career Center Principal Secretary, took over.

Sophomore Eva Ottoson enjoys being a part of the club. There are currently 14 members of the Brighter Future Club.

“I joined the club because I care about the environment and our main goal is to make the school more environmentally friendly,” Ottoson said.

McPhee said that the club hasn’t done any challenges or drives and that the clothing drive is a great start for the Brighter Future club.

The USAgain box hasn’t been getting the attention of students and not a lot of clothes are being donated.

“It hasn’t done much. People don’t see it, it’s just not a big deal. So at the beginning of this year we said we really need to start using that,” McPhee said.

During the drive, the club will receive four cents per ounce opposing to the regular two cents. The funds will go towards helping the school, like using LED lights, new garbage lids and other things to make the school better overall.

Along with helping the school you’ll also be helping less fortunate people when donating. USAgain sends the clothing they receive to places like Goodwill to help those who can’t afford clothing at expensive stores. They also send clothes to places in need of clothing like Puerto Rico.

Freshman Sabrina Moses has helped by donating during the drive.

“I had nothing to do with my extra clothes that I don’t wear, so I decided to give them away for a good cause,” Moses said.

Don’t worry if you miss this drive, McPhee said the club is going to doing another drive this spring and the same time next year.
