Cheryl Krauspe resigns from the Kaneland school board

As of Sept. 12, 2016 Kaneland board member, Cheryl Krauspe has resigned from her seat on the board. Cheryl Krauspe was a board member for 11 and half years, where she took her spot on the board very seriously by doing her homework on important matters, as well as being a part of meetings, where she was ready to discuss and listen.

“I had made the decision that three 4-year terms were enough, so I was not planning to run for office again in April. I knew that it was time that others  step up to this service position. There are other life obligations with my downstate Illinois family that drove me to resign a little earlier than planned,” Krauspe said.

Krauspe has had a lifelong commitment to education being a school counselor for 35 years before retiring and being a board member was just extension of her love for the Kaneland community.

“The real rewards for service are intrinsic. I knew that by serving as a Board member, what I was doing was vitally important to the community. I felt that I was ensuring an educated citizenry for the next generation in the Kaneland District, and that was satisfying,” Krauspe said.

With the resignation of Mrs. Krauspe, the board has 45 days to replace her spot from the day of resignation (Sept. 12). Board members get the opportunity to interview candidates and will decide who will take on the spot by the October meeting.

“The advice I would give any prospective board member, whether it be schools, parks, library, fire, police or county boards would be to be ready to do a lot of work on behalf of the respective board and community.  Board members play an important and essential role in that governing body.  There is always a great deal to learn in any new role and to take advantage of supports and training to assist new Board Members,” Superintendent Todd Leden said.
