DECA anticipates future competition

Kaneland athletics aren’t the only teams making waves; DECA has had a very successful year and has the ability to go to state.

According to to econ teacher Tom Hanlon he feels that students will finish top ten in scoring as well as qualify for nationals.  DECA is making serious bounds; the student production is tremendous having several students place in top five and in top ten in their most recent competition in Rosemont.

“My favorite part of DECA is seeing my students succeed and improve in competition throughout the years.” Hanlon said.

Kaneland’s DECA program is headed by career and technical education advisor, Tom Hanlon. Students in DECA participate in local, state, and national competitions.

During competitions, students make presentations and are tested on various topics involving real world business situations.

DECA’s mission statement is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

Deca has been around since the 1950’s with an impressive 60 year history having affecting over ten million students, educators, administrators and business professionals.

Deca is an Association of Business and Marketing of students, which originated as an fraternity for college students, formerly known Delta Epsilon Chi which includes about 15,000 members and 200 colleges and universities. Deca has now trickled it’s way down to high schools having an incredible number of 190,000 students in 3,500 schools.
