n March 21, 22 and 23, Kaneland High School will be putting on their own production of the “Drowsy Chaperone.”

“The Drowsy Chaperone is a funny, upbeat musical that gives a modern twist on the arts,” junior Rachel Miller said.

The “Drowsy Chaperone” is a show-within-a-show that is centered on Janet Van De Graff, a showgirl who plans to give up her career in order to marry oil tycoon Robert Martin. When Janet quits the show business, it has a major effect on all those surrounding her.

All students at Kaneland involved with the “Drowsy Chaperone” are expected to attend all after school practices.

“The cast spends the first two hours of rehearsals running lines and practicing the music portion of the production. The next two hours are dedicated towards choreography(dancing),” director Christina Staker said.

The music sends a message of joy to the audience and really stresses that fact that anything can happen if you truly are willing to work for it.

“The Drowsy Chaperone is a comedy, it is sure to bring a smile to the audience,”  sophomore Nicole DiSandro said.

The show is dependent on the actors making all movements over-the-top. Throughout the production, the audience will grow attached to the characters as they develop. According to Staker, this show includes a student range from freshman to seniors, all who are very talented and work extremely hard day in and day out on their talents. All cast and crew members are granted with great responsibility and have dedicated the majority of their life towards the arts.

“The cast of this production is truly amazing, I am working with an extremely talented group of people who all clearly want to be there, I am lucky to be a part of it,” sophomore Ben Mitchinson said.

According to DiSandro, the “Drowsy Chaperone” is different from most productions Kaneland High School has put on due to how modern it is. Unlike most shows, the spotlight is shown between multiple leading roles, unlike a normal production where the spotlight is portrayed on one individual.

“The minute the audience sees it, they’re gonna love it, this is not a show anyone will want to miss,” Staker said. The “Drowsy Chaperone” is set to amaze, the cast is ready, the stage is set and all that is left is the perfomance.
