February 10 Board Meeting

The weekly school board meeting was held once again at Kaneland Harter middle school, on Feb. 10, 2014. To begin, the floor was open to the public which was when a few teachers from Blackberry Creek voiced their thanks about how well the RTI program has been working for them.

After, the board brought up important information about an assembly that the High School will have a patriotic assembly on March 17 in honor of three Kaneland graduates that have died in service to our country.

“A General will be present, and it will only be open for Kaneland students and a few others that are invited,” Superintendent Dr. Schuler said.

The assembly will be completely paid by donors.

Next, a new proposal for a project was displayed for the board for their feedback and support. The project is called the Dauberman Road Extension project and it’s goal is to build a bridge from Dauberman road to Granart road over the train tracks in order to release the congestion that the slow trains always cause. The project was already brought up in 1999 and the proposed budget from then was about 12 to 15 million dollars.

This project has been revisited and mentioned to the Kaneland School Board because the slow trains sometimes have been stopped on the tracks for more than half and hour which cause a serious safety concern.

If in the case of an emergency this road may very well be a way of transportation and if blocked may stop people from getting to the emergency on time, including getting to Kaneland High School. This proposal was brought to the School Board for criticism and support.
