Kaneland Education Association votes “overwhelmingly in favor of moving forward with an intent to strike”

According to a post on Kaneland Education Association’s website (KEA), on Thursday November 5 the general membership voted “overwhelmingly in favor of moving forward with an intent to strike,” although no strike date has been set.
The notice, titled “KEA Press Release 11-5-15,” said Chief Negotiator for the KEA, 8th grade math teacher Susan Acksel said that “both sides continue to bargain, and we are still confident a fair agreement can be reached.”
A public community forum is scheduled for next week on Thursday November 12 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Kaneland Harter Middle School.
Another post on the KEA website, titled “Community Forum 11-12-15” serves as an invitation to the meeting stating that the KEA “invites you to a community forum to receive information on the following:” financial aid, contract salary proposals and time for public question are then listed.
The Kaneland school board is set to meet on Monday November 9 at Kaneland Harter Middle School at 6 p.m., an hour before their normal meeting time. According to the agenda the board will go into executive session for “collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.”
