Kaneland’s board of education was on the hunt for a new Superintendent. Starting with about 40 applicants, the Kaneland School District 302 BoRStarting with an estimate of about 40 applicants, they must narrow it down to just one.

While this process is considered to be one of the most important decisions made by the board, it is also the one with the largest margin for potential. Cheryl Krauspe, president of the board, definitely recognizes the significance of this choice.

“This is a huge decision, it can get daunting,” Krauspe said. “I’m trying to remind myself of what a great opportunity this is.”

The board had previously set up a hierarchy for who would be the next superintendent, but they have now gone through the entirety of it. Therefore this process is something they have not had to experience for a long time. This is a rare opportunity.

“We want to get it right, you only get one crack at this. I don’t think it’s going to be hard, it’s exciting. It’s a great opportunity for us,” said Krauspe.

With this decision being so rare, it’s very important that the new superintendent is the right fit. The board set up a profile and have now narrowed it down to six candidates. By Wednesday, only two of these six will remain. The finalist, who will become the new superintendent, will be announced Monday, December 15.

He or she has to have positive qualities suited to the job. They also have to be committed the district and to Kaneland’s mission.

“[I’m hoping for] someone with excellent communication skills and someone who shares a passion for learning and teaching,” said Julie-Ann Fuchs, assistant to the superintendent.

“I’m hoping that we’re going to find someone who can be the face of Kaneland and can reach out amongst all of our stick-holders to bring us all together. We’re 13 zip codes, but one Kaneland,” said Krauspe. “We want this person to be our biggest fan, promoter, and cheerleader.”

On December 17, the Kaneland School District #302 Board of Education officially welcomes Dr. Todd Leden as the new Superintendent.

Leden currently works at the Fenton Community School District 100 as the Associate Superintendent and High School Principal.

“Dr. Leden comes highly recommended to be the Superintendent of the Kaneland District,” said School Board President, Cheryl Krauspe. “His background is rich with high quality, challenging experiences which make him the ideal candidate to lead District initiatives and drive improvements while building on the excellent foundation of the Kaneland school community.”

Dr. Leden has served in all levels of the educational system as a classroom teacher, department chair, athletic director, assistant principal, along with his current status.

“Dr. Leden distinguished himself by being the best match for this profile,” Krauspe notes. “He epitomizes the quality of leadership required for public education today.  The entirety of his administrative and educational experiences have prepared him to fulfill the responsibilities of our Kaneland superintendency.”

Dr. Leden will officially start his work in the Kaneland District #302 on July 1, 2015.

“I am honored and privileged to be the next Superintendent of Kaneland District 302,” said Dr. Leden. “I look forward to the duty and responsibility of working with a dedicated staff of district professionals, community members, parents, and students to provide an education experience that all stakeholders will be proud of.”
