As a part of their continued effort to support those serving in the armed forces, Operation Support Our Troops America is sponsoring a holiday drive. Items donated will be packaged into individual Holiday Stockings and sent to troops serving overseas.

Items needed consist of: AA/AAA batteries, New CD’s and DVD’s, fruit snacks/ fruit roll-ups, trail mix, puzzle/sudoku books, granola bars, rice krispie bars, individual packs of cookies, starlight mints/ holiday candy, slim jims/ beef jerky, licorice/ twizzlers, hand warmers, unbreakable Christmas ornaments, iTunes gift cards and letters/ cards for the troops.

In addition to donating as an individual, some teachers are implementing the drive into their classes.

“In my classes, I’m having my two AP US History classes compete against each other. The class that collects the most will be rewarded with breakfast or cookies or something… Making a little fun out of it,” history teacher Javier Martinez said.

While the drive goes through October 30, students and teachers can bring donations to Martinez by October 26th, to be included in his delivery.

Special Education teacher Nora Tomasik is responsible for bringing the holiday drive to KHS.

“Recently, my son and I visited the [OSOTA] warehouse to pack care packages for our troops, and the man there informed us that they were in need of items to fill stockings for the troops during Christmas time and gave me the list of items that they are really needing. So I gave that list to Mr. Martinez because he had done a supply drive in the past, and asked him if he’d be interested and he just sort of took that and ran with it in his classes and let the rest of the school know,” Tomasik said.
