Proclamation for Kindess in Kaneland

“Almost thirty percent of youth in the United States are estimated to be involved in bullying each year,” the proclamation made on Oct. 2 by the Kane County, Elburn and Sugar Grove boards stated.

The proclamation designated the week of October 13, 2013 to promoting kindness and preventing bullying, the week was called KIK or Kindness in Kaneland week.

Throughout the proclamation it explains the reasons for KIK week, one section tells how simple acts of kindness can lift spirits and help prevent bullying, therefore this can lead to a more peaceful school system and community.

The proclamation also clearly states that bullying is unacceptable, and that the adults in our community need to work to set an example for children to stop bullying and express kindness.

“One small act of kindness can change (bullying) and build positive attitudes and communities,” Sugar Grove Village President Sean Michaels told the Elburn Herald on the proclamation and KIK week.

The communities of Sugar Grove and Elburn have been supportive of KIK week through their businesses, libraries and people.

The Sugar Grove Library hosted movie nights in support of the project on Oct.19 and Oct.r 20.

Local Girl Scout troops also showed support of the cause, on Friday night local girls grades 4th-8th and their parents were welcome to join them at Harter Middle School for a night of fun activity, and presentations.

On Oct. 16, Munchie P’s of Elburn donated 10% of all their sales to the Kindness Campaign.
